Carlile has 25 Grammy nominations and 9 wins. She is the first female songwriter to receive two Grammy nominations for Song of the Year in the same year, and the first songwriter or songwriting duo to receive two nominations for Song of the Year in the same year since 1994. With six nominations, she was the most nominated woman at the 2019 Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for, By the Way, I Forgive You, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year for the track, "The Joke".
Carlile formed the Highwomen, an all-female quartet with Amanda Shires, Maren Morris, and Natalie Hemby, in 2019. They released their debut album, The Highwomen, to critical acclaim and commercial success in 2019, and won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song for the song "Crowded Table" in 2021.
Carlile's most recent studio album, In These Silent Days, landed at number 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, as well as at the top of the charts for folk music and top rock albums. By 2023, the album and two of its singles had been nominated for seven Grammy Awards, three of which it won, including Best Rock Song and Performance for "Broken Horses."
