Take a deep dive into the world of Marie Ulvern Ringheim, better known as girl in red (yep, all in lowercase). Her love for music sparked thanks to her granddad's influence, setting her on a path she never expected. Initially, she planned to study music, but the idea of becoming a musician seemed far-fetched. Little did she know, her bedroom would become her own music studio, where she taught herself piano, guitar, and music production.
Things kicked up a notch when she got a Blue Yeti microphone from her dad at 16 in 2015. Under the alias "Lydia X," she started dropping Norwegian tunes on SoundCloud. But when her guitar teacher wasn't down with her songwriting passion, she ditched the lessons. Instead, she coined the name "girl in red" after a text mishap, and the rest is history. Her debut single, "I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend," hit SoundCloud in November 2016 and quickly racked up 5,000 streams in five months. A feature on NRK Urørt skyrocketed her online following.
Fast forward a bit, and girl in red's snagged nominations and wins left and right, snagging honors like 2018's Norwegian Newcomer of the Year at the GAFFA Awards Norway and 2020's Artist of the Year at P3 Gull. She even scooped up Album of the Year and more at the Spellemannprisen in 2022, plus the 2022 Telenor Culture Prize.
