Michael Jason Isbell is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and has been venturing into an acting career. He is known for his solo career and his work with the band, The 400 Unit. When Jason was 21, like a lot of budding singer-songwriters, he submitted demo tapes to all and sundry, and was eventually rewarded with a publishing deal.

Jason wrote and worked with FAME studios for 15 years, where he released his first solo album in July 2007. During June 2013, Isbell released his fourth solo album, and in July 2015, he released his fifth solo record. It debuted at number 1 on Billboard Magazine's rock, folk and country record charts, where the album was well received, earning Jason two Grammy Awards. Isbell has won a total of four Grammy Awards, two in 2016 and another two in 2018. Jason proudly cites Bob Dylan as a leading light in influencing his writing.

As mentioned earlier, Isbell's ventured into acting, and his first role came in 2016 when he guest starred in the animated TV series Squidbillies. He has also had guest appearances in the film Deadwood, the TV show Billions, and is set to appear in the upcoming Martin Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon

Back to the band, interestingly, the band's name, The 400 Unit, comes from the colloquial term to describe the psychiatric ward of Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama. The hospital has since been re-vamped and the name is no longer in use at the hospital.
