Rodrigo y Gabriela (Rodrigo and Gabriela) are a Grammy Award-winning Mexican acoustic guitar duo. They perform primarily instrumental duets using flamenco guitars. Their styles are a mixture of different genres, including nuevo flamenco, rock, and heavy metal. The duo has released five studio albums, with the sixth one set for release in April this year. Apart from full studio albums, Rodrigo Y Gabriela has three live albums and three extended plays under their helm. In 2020, their fifth studio album, Mettavolution, won them their first Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
Rodrigo y Gabriela’s music has also been featured in several motion pictures and an award-winning tv show. In 2002, they performed a song featured in the movie In America; the song was written by Luis Aguilera called Cuando Salide Cuba. In 2008 one of their songs, called Tamacun, was featured in the pilot episode of AMC’s hit tv show, Breaking Bad. In 2011, they collaborated with musical legend Hans Zimmer on The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides soundtrack. In the same year, they also contributed to the soundtrack for Puss in Boots, scored by Henry Jackman.
