When the Chicks announced the release of their new album, Gaslighter, fans were absolutely ecstatic. It has been a 15-year wait since the trio has released their previous album, Taking the Long Way. The new record, which took two years to make, is an ode to ending toxic relationships and finding relief, strength and freedom. The songwriting process also came from the ladies’ life experience.

Frontwoman Natalie Maines explained during a 2019 Spiritualgasm podcast that some life events led to her writing songs again. “When I started getting a divorce, I had a lot to say, so that kind of sparked me being ready [to make new music]. Songwriting is really hard for me, and I think, for many years, I didn't want to analyze my life or my relationship.”

Although the songs are based on disagreements and toxic relationships, the Chicks member Emily Strayer mentioned during an interview with NPR that the songs are not angry. “We tend to put enough time between whatever's going on in our life and songwriting so that we come to it with a sense of humor, like you said. We always want to be raw and real, but to me, that leads to great songs, which leads to a great time. So I never think of our songs as being angry, really, or us being angry.”

If you’re a fan of the Chicks, this is your opportunity to see them perform songs from Gaslighter for the first time. The trio are also bringing in indie singer-songwriter, Jenny Lewis, as their support act. Get your tickets now to see these amazing ladies perform live at the Red Rocks!
