Van Halen formed in 1974 and emerged onto the mainstream just four years later, the release of their self-titled debut album quickly established them as one of the most important heavy metal bands in the 1970s and 80s. In 1977, the band got their big break when Kiss' bassist, Gene Simmons saw their performance at a local club and instantly knew of their huge success to come. He payed for their first recording session and within the year, Van Halen had signed a recording contract with Warner Brothers. Just months after, the band released their self-titled debut album, tracks such as "Runnin' With the Devil" blew fans away, as well as the music industry and the album rocketed to platinum status within six months of its release.
Van Halen have since become one of the hardest working bands of all time, with a string of multi-platinum albums under their belt, the band are recognized all over the world as the highest of rock stars.
