Independent EDM duo Zeds Dead emerged in 2009 and quickly became a cult favorite among ravers. The Canadian act, comprising Dylan Mamid and Zachary Rapp-Rovan, has produced a number of their own events since the beginning of their career. After getting together in 2009, the duo created remixes and tracks. Many of their singles, including “Journey of a Lifetime,” were accessible on their Myspace website. Soon, they cultivated a niche following.
Zeds Dead started to promote a weekly event held in the basement of a Toronto Bar. The party, titled "Bassmentality” quickly gained some traction and attracted a number of performers on rotation. Some renowned DJs like Skrillex, Kami & Krooked, Nero, and Borgoer performed at the event before they went big.
In 2010, Zeds Dead dropped their debut EP, Rudeboy. The record paved the way for the Canadian duo to set out on major local and international tours. In 2011, Zeds Dead performed a whopping 50 shows for the Graveyard Tour. While their earlier works were released through independent labels, Mamid and Rapp-Rovan eventually founded their own label, Deadbeats, in 2016. Since its formation, the label has grown to have over 70 artists on its roster.
