Method Man and Redman both rose to prominence as rappers in the 1990s; Method Man as a member of Wu-Tang Clan and Redman as a member of Def Squad. The East Coast hiphop stars are both signed to Def Jam Recordings, both as solo artists and as a duo, although they knew each other for many years previously. They have been collaborating since 1994, and have released two studio albums together, Blackout! (1999) and Blackout! 2 (2009). The duo were stars of the 2001 cult classic stoner film How High, and had a short-lived Fox sitcom, Method & Red, in 2004.

Ghostface Killah and Raekwon are also members of the Wu-Tang Clan, a hip hop group from New York city that are widely considered to be one of the most influential bands of hip hop#s Golden Age and have released seven gold and platinum studio albums, with worldwide sales of more than 40 million albums, including members' solo projects, since 1992.
