Alternative rock icons Counting Crows rose to prominence during the ‘90s with staples like “Mr. Jones,” “Accidentally In Love,” “Big Yellow Taxi,” and more. The band’s beginnings involved a bidding war between major labels to sign the original line-up comprising Adam Duritz, Charlie Gillingham, David Bryson, and two other members. The band eventually signed with Geffen Records and released their debut album, August and Everything After, in 1993. The band made an immediate breakthrough, with the album peaking at number 4 on the Billboard 200. The album spawned the band’s most celebrated single, “Mr. Jones,” as well as “Round Here,” “Rain King,” and “Murder One.” The album was later certified multi-platinum after selling over seven million albums in the U.S. The band moved on to release six more critically-acclaimed studio efforts, including their latest, Somewhere Under Wonderland. The album peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and entered the charts in nine other countries.

Alternative-emo rock band Dashboard Confessional began as a side project by singer-songwriter Chris Carrabba. They emerged in 2000 with their debut effort, The Swiss Army Romance. By 2001, Carrabba was joined by two other members, and they released their sophomore album, The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most The album entered the Billboard 200 and peaked at number 5 on the Independent Albums chart. In the U.S., the album was certified gold after selling over 500,000 copies. The following year, Dashboard Confessional released their highest-charting effort, A Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar. The gold-certified album reached number 2 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Independent Albums chart. In the same year, the band dropped MTV Unplugged 2.0.
