The Head and the Heart is an American indie folk band. The band was originally formed in 2009 by Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar, percussion). Now, the band also includes Charity Rose Thielen (violin, guitar, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (piano), and Tyler Williams (drums).

It’s been a hot minute since the band last released a fresh album. Their last one was released at the height of the pandemic, and there hasn’t been any news of studio sessions until now. Since forming in 2009, they’ve released contemporary folk-rock tracks, with a knack for songs that feel like private, personal anthems: “Rivers and Roads, “Down in the Valley” and “All We Ever Knew,” to pick three. This season though, they’re back in the studio to make more music for all the eager fans.

“We’re not really demoing on this record, I feel like,” the band’s drummer, Tyler Williams, said in an interview. “It feels like we’re getting into the room, into the studio together, and then we’re trying to capture, I think as close to that moment of creation as possible. Where the idea flows out of you and it’s already being recorded and then you just maybe go and write the lyrics to the music, you know.”

They also just wrapped up their 2023 tour and had shown their gratitude towards their fans. The Head and the Heart also announced a handful of shows for 2024 and two of them are happening in Morrison, Colorado. They’re performing at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre for two straight nights! On the first night, they will be joined by special guest Madison Cunningham. For the second night, they will be joined by alternative rock band Houndmouth. Let’s talk about Houndmouth in this article and focus on the second night show.

Houndmouth is an American band consisting of members: Matt Myers, Caleb Hickman, Zak Appleby, and Shane Cody. The band has been around since 2011 and have released unforgettable tracks like “Sedona,” “For No One,” and “Say It.” It’s definitely going to be a great night when The Head and the Heart and Houndmouth both rock the stage in Red Rocks!
