Yeah Yeah Yeahs recently dropped a brand new music video for their latest single, “Blacktop.” The highly-acclaimed track is featured in the band’s latest album, Cool It Down. Upon its release, the record was met with critical acclaim, and it entered the Billboard charts, peaking at number 6 on the Top Rock and Top Independent Albums. In the U.K., Cool It Down reached number 2 on the Independent chart and number 10 on the official charts company. The album is the band’s first studio release since 2013. The album was also preceded by the single “Edge of the World,” which featured Perfume Genius. The band’s exemplary work with the album led to a coveted Grammy nomination for 2022.

In a statement, lead singer Karen O described the unique sound of their new single. “‘Blacktop’ stuck out to me early on. The demo was very stripped down instrumentally and emotionally. It was a step toward what radical closeness feels like after a long separation. Each record has one of these diamonds in the rough that just feels like flying to me.” She added that it felt right to keep the song’s music video stripped down.

Since emerging in 2000, Yeah Yeah Yeahs has become a force in indie rock music. The New York-born band made a breakthrough with their debut album, Fever to Tell, which was certified gold in the U.S. and the U.K. Their fifth effort, Cool It Down, is the band’s first independent release after wrapping up their contract with Interscope Records.
