Hailing form Carolina, AFI are true proof of the fruits of dogged determination, as after forming in 1991 as a high school band, with a haphazard existence involving the band breaking up and reuiniting, much to the enthusiasm of their existing fans, it was only in 2000 that they began to achieve commercial success – and once they did, it didn’t stop!! Aiming purely to make music for the rest of their lives, regardless of how much success they achieved, AFI recorded and released several albums, their sound gradually growing darker and more romantic towards the end of the 90s, a move that worked very much in their favour with ‘The Art of Drowning’ in 2000. The album was an immense commercial success, going on to sell in excess of 10,000 copies – an incredible feat for an underground album!
Labels now foaming at the mouth to sign the band, AFI signed to Dreamworks and went on to release their first major label album, “Sing For Sorrow.” It was received with enthusiasm from critics and audiences alike, achieving a position in the top 10 of the charts. Since then, AFI’s success has known no bounds!!
