Michael Franti recently made the big announcement of his brand new tour with his longtime band, Spearhead. “I believe that we all need “big big love” in our lives, especially today. To me, that’s holding space for those we love closely, those we may have differences with, and for the world as a whole!” Franti also announced an extensive list of acclaimed performers as special guests. Franti brings along the soul-pop music group Lawrence for his show at the Red Rocks Amphitheater.
Over the years, Michael Franti has cultivated a cult following among hip-hop, soul, funk, jazz, and reggae music lovers. His eclectic music style attracts people by the thousands, making him a much-awaited summer touring artist. Franti, an Oakland native, emerged in 1986 when he joined industrial punk named The Beatnigs. After parting ways with the band, Franti joined another band, The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, during the early 90s.
By 1994, he founded Michael Franti & The Spearhead. The band writes politically charged lyrics and infuses various genres. The band released 11 studio albums, including the latest release, Work Hard & Be Nice, in 2020. Since 1994, Michael Franti & Spearhead have consistently charted in Billboard’s Adult Alternative airplay chart. In 2020, they released their second number hit, “I Got You.”
