Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9) is a critically-acclaimed band known for their genre-defying music. The five-piece member band performs pure instrumental music with no vocals, but they are still known for being excellent storytellers. STS9 emerged in 1998 from Santa Cruz, California, and Snellville, Georgia, and they have consistently been categorized as "livetronica" – although the members refer to their music as “post-rock dance music.”

In 1999, they released their debut album, Interplanetary Escape Vehicle, via Landslide Records. After a stellar debut, the band released ten more critically-acclaimed albums, including their most popular effort, Artifact. The 2005 record became the band’s breakthrough album. Artifact entered Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums, peaking at number 12. In the same year, a remixed version of Artifact was released. Perspectives contain all remixes and contain several bonus remix tracks from Bassnectar, Bill Laswell, Krash Kale, and Richard Devine. In 2011, the band dropped their highly-revered EP, When the Dust Settles. The record contains several fan favorites, such as “Golden Gate,” “Scheme,” “Beyond Monday,” and the highly-regarded title track.

Apart from music, STS9 actively participates in social work. The band has partnered with several non-profit organizations throughout the course of their career. They have consistently participated in food drives and benefit concerts. In 2005, the band organized a show and raised $20,000 for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The following year, their Live as Time Changes Tour used carbon-neutral buses and used renewable energy during their live concerts.

In 2008, they released their remix album, Peaceblaster: The New Orleans Make It Right Remixes. The effort’s proceeds went to the Make It Right Foundation to help build homes for displaced families in New Orleans.

Today, the band is a festival favorite. They had appeared in several popular festivals, such as Bonnaroo, Outside Lands Festival, Lollapalooza, Electric Forest, Wakarusa, Coachella, and more. They had also supported other renowned jam bands, including String Cheese Incident, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers, and Umphrey's McGee, among others.
